Feed IT Souls: DUAL (Alpha Build)

Feed IT Souls: Dual is a fighting game for the Game Boy Color, designed for two players sharing one console. This game was produced for GB Compo 25 but unfortunately, I wasn't able to work on the game for the final month of the jam. As such, FITS: Dual is very much a Work In Progress and many of its systems require a lot more development.

Typically, I wouldn't release a game in an alpha state like this. However, since designing a fighting game must be approached holistically and this was to be an entry in a jam, I decided I would try something different this time around and release an alpha build early in development. This way, I can get feedback on the various systems as I develop and expand on them further rather than not release anything at all for the GB Compo jam.

So with all that said, have a fool around with the current iteration and let me know your thoughts - for better or worse!

FIGHT SCENE OVERVIEW

HOW TO PLAY

I challenged myself to create a multiplayer fighting game that could be played using only one console. For this reason, FITS Dual has a very minimal approach to its design, using only two buttons per player.

PRESENT & FUTURE PLANS

Considering this games self-imposed limitation of only providing two buttons per player, the fighting system will always be a minimal one. All the same, I am interested in exploring how this idea can be pushed further towards greater complexity while still maintaining simplistic controls. It's likely I will be adding to the possible moves over time therefore.

When I have some more time, I will release a devlog that shares exactly what is going on under the hood when it comes to character specific traits. Because it's taken a lot of work to get all the systems in place before I got to really test how fast/slow everything should be, the current character stat values will be far from final. For now, you can check out the the character statistics menu option in-game (which hints at what each character's strengths and weaknesses are).

Finally, there will be bugs in this jam build. I've done my best to try and clean up what I could in the last couple of days of GB Compo 25 but no doubt a fighting game was always going to be very tough to complete on my own under jam conditions.

This game is unbelievable! Very impressive how you designed the moveset with only 2 buttons, it’s quite intuitive. This would be so fun to play 2P!

Phenomenal game for what you've done so far. The fighting mechanic is very promising, but it's overshadowed by the amazing title screen, effects, story line, jokes, and the THE BEST sprite animation I have seen on a GBC game!

That looks pretty! Looking forward how this is going to develop!

Absolute stunning!!! Cant wait for the full thing!!!!

This is amazing, even the game manual design is on point
